چکیده

Objective: To comparatively evaluate the cytotoxicity of EndoREZ (urethane dimethacrylate based), RoekoSEAL (silicone based) and Kalsogen Plus (ZOE based) sealers on HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney epithelial cells) and Vero (African green monkey kidney epithelial cells) cell lines in vitro. Materials and methods: Sealers EndoREZ, RoekoSEAL and Kalsogen Plus were mixed according to manufacturer’s instructions. Extract of these sealers were then treated with cultured cell (HEK-293 and Vero), cytotoxicity evaluated using MTT assay. Cytotoxicity between fresh and set specimens at 0h, 24h, 48h, 72h and 1wk time-interval were calculated. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS Version 15.0 (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) statistical software package (p<0.05). Results: Extracts of Kalsogen Plus were more toxic, as compared to all other groups (p<0.05) on both cell lines. The mean value of EndoREZ was significantly lower as compared to all other groups on both cell lines. The mean value of RoekoSEAL was significantly higher as compared to EndoREZ but significantly lower as compared to Kalsogen Plus. Conclusion: Kalsogen Plus and RoekoSEAL were slightly cytotoxic while EndoREZ was non-cytotoxic on both cell lines. The cytotoxic response decreased in the order of Kalsogen Plus>RoekoSEAL>EndoREZ overtime.

In vitro antimicrobial effect of different root canal sealers against oral pathogens

Background and Purpose: Root canal therapy is the primary method for the treatment of an infected pulp in modern dentistry. The main aim of endodontic treatment is the elimination of bacteria and their products from infected root canals. In this study, we attempted to investigate the antimicrobial activity of three root canal sealers against oral pathogens. Materials and Methods: The antimic...

A comparative evaluation of cytotoxicity of root canal sealers: an in vitro study

OBJECTIVES The objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the cytotoxicity of four different root canal sealers i.e. Apexit Plus (Ivoclar Vivadent), Endomethasone N (Septodont), AH-26 (Dentsply) and Pulpdent Root Canal Sealer (Pulpdent), on a mouse fibroblast cell line (L929). MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty two discs for each sealer (5 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height) were f...

Long-term cytotoxic effects of contemporary root canal sealers

OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of root canal sealers on the cytotoxicity of 3T3 fibroblasts during a period of 5 weeks. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fibroblasts (3T3, 1×105 cells per well) were incubated with elutes of fresh specimens from eight root canal sealers (AH Plus, Epiphany, Endomethasone N, EndoREZ, MTA Fillapex, Pulp Canal Sealer EWT, RoekoSeal and S...

An in vitro evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of nine root canal sealers.

AIM The purpose of this in vitro study was to analyze the antimicrobial activity of root canal sealers by using the agar diffusion test (ADT). METHODS AND MATERIALS Three categories of root canal sealers were included in the study: resin-based sealers (4), zinc oxide-based sealers (3), and calcium hydroxide-based sealers (2). The microbial strains used were: S. aureus (2 strains), C. albicans...

Critical review on methacrylate resin-based root canal sealers.

INTRODUCTION Four generations of methacrylate resin-based sealers have been available commercially. Three of these were introduced during the last 5 years when the concept of simultaneous bonding of root canal sealers to root filling materials and dentin was popularized. METHODS This article presents an overview of methacrylate resin-based sealers, with the objectives of clarifying the behavi...

A comparative evaluation of apical microleakage of MTA fillapex and AH26 sealers in the presence of blood in the canal space of the teeth

Introduction: Apical seal in blood or dry root canal is a problem in endodontic treatment. Failure of apical seal causes inflammatory reaction and failure root canal treatment. Because of the sealer properties, root canal should be dry for obturation. But hydrophilic sealers can adhere to root canal walls nowadays and this problem is still controversial. This study aimed at determining the apic...
